Is There a Fey Effect?

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

Following up on Sarah Palin's ratings-grabbing SNL appearance, CNN has a report on what's being called The Fey Effect, a phenomenon whereby Tina Fey's startlingly accurate impression of Palin actually costs the GOP ticket votes…

Well, that's certainly unfair. I mean, if not for Tina Fey, America would surely see Sarah Palin as a sharp, experienced, well-spoken, non-polarizing person.

So when the Obama administration forces your kids to read The Communist Manifesto in NAMBLA class at their Madrassa, remember to blame Tina Fey.

  1. Aaaaww, c'mon…first there was Ms. Palin and then there was Ms. Fey. The first time Ms. Fey nearly copied the lines of Ms. Palin..thats what made it so funny…

But before all…it's humor. As in lol, lmao, rofl and hahahahihihihohoho

  2. Yeah, what Desperatevoter said. And, I would add that it's all John McCain's fault for picking her in the first place.

  3. I've decided that from now on I'm just going to watch for the TRUTH FACTOR in campaigning. Im going to be a RATIONAL VOTER. What a concept…. the RATIONAL VOTER. Join me. Let's Demand straight answers. Don't tune in and respond to sensational distractions from what you should be concerned with. Ask yourself: What are these people proposing to DO? …to DO (not what they think is a good idea) to DO (not just what they would advise a friend) to DO (What will they DO as an elected official?)… and how will they pay for it? Those are the big questions. Figure out the answers to those questions, and then vote for whomever has the plans that are in YOUR best interest as an individual and as a citizen.

The campaign that seems to need lies is the one I DON'T want. Yep, I'm ging to be a RATIONAL VOTER. Right side or not, I vow to err on the side of the folks who are trying to explain the issues (the real ones, not the knee-jerk response du jour).

Likewise, (I'm from Michigan), the proposal backers who are trying to disperse FACTS are those I'm siding with. Think about it. The one's who keep trying to explain the basic facts, over and over, aren't afraid of having voters know about reality. The one's who regale us with "what ifs" and loose association games… those are the one's who are trying to gain our votes for their side, regardless of the cost, and in spite of what our real needs or opinions might be. We shouldn't allow ourselves to be USED that way.

If this RATIONAL VOTER rule were a rule we all followed, we might still disagree, but would be making our votes for what we really want, NOT in response to lies, half-truths, distortions, smears, emotional smoke screens, fear…

Even this suggested route has a glitch if we're not all capable of and/or willing to handle the critical thinking required to recognize the difference between truth and propoganda. Put on your thinking caps, America!!! Be a RATIONAL VOTER.

  4. Andrea from Michigan.

That's smart-posting, from the political point of view.
Your country has been in trouble the last 6/7 years, not since 1 year or since the 'official' moneycrisis.
You don't have to be a smarty or a economist to figure out the problems started way earlier then from the point where Wallstreet collapsed before our eyes…if you were even a little bit concerned about your country for the last 6/7/8 years, you're able to see all this coming from far. And i'm not the brightest man in Europe, haha look at my 8:18 posting (though i meant what i said)..
So, even me, who loves your country very much, also because i've got a lot of friends over there, even i was waiting for 'something else' for my friends in the US.
What i'm trying to say is, you even won't need this last couple of days to the election. You probably already know who to vote for, when you close your eyes, think about the last years and from what you have been heard from the candidates. If i was an American, the media would have drove me crazy by now…that's why i make choices what i really want to see and skip the rest and throw them of the table.
I'm from the Netherlands and i will never tell an American who to vote for, that's your prerogative which i don't want to influence. It's all fine with me….as long as America is voting the REAL candidate and not the smears.
Great posting Andrea, keep your mind straight and be aware of all the distractive garbage.
Thanks for your time and i'm sorry for my wobbly English…lol
    Good luck.
    Vote America!!

  6. Sarah Palin gives ignorant Americans hope: she has proven that even mediocre women can aspire to obtain high positions of power.

  7. Tina Fey's impersonations of Sarah are so impeccable, sometimes I am not sure which one I am actually watching. Perhaps the Fey Effect is fear. She could easily
be hired to replace Sarah at any time, and this is a terrifying prospect.Who would want a comedian over a fanatical idiot in the White House?

  8. Are you kidding? One woman says…

"Sarah Palin gives ignorant Americans hope: she has proven that even mediocre women can aspire to obtain high positions of power."

I hope Sarah Palin NEVER gets into the White House because I strongly disagree with her position on most issues. She may not be right for the VP role, but she's definitely not mediocre or ignorant. Take a look at her overall record in Alaska. And yes… mediocre men have aspired to obtain high positions of power for almost 250 years. It's about time that women are able to step into the ring.

By the way, I LOVE Fey's portrayal. It's spot on. It would never influence my vote, though.

    LMAO.

And John McCain gives me hope too. Maybe one day like him, I can divorce my wife, and marry a rich skeletor and spend the rest of my life in politics doing nothing.

Oh, how he inspires us young white males to rise up.

  10. Well, Palin really acts like that, so I don't think it would matter, even if Tina Fey had never "acted" like Palin, I would still not vote for her.
